Finding and Selecting Medical Device Distributors in Australia
The Australian medical device market has a full spectrum of potential distributors ranging from the “one person operation” servicing highly specialized markets to large national distributors. Often a smaller distributor who is focused on a very specific product line, while perhaps having a smaller geographic reach, may nevertheless achieve better results.

Also, some medical distributors may have different levels of access to public and private healthcare systems and the choice of the distributor needs to take this into account depending on where the best potential is for a given product. For large volume medial devices and IVDs (especially for consumables) purchasing may be via tender and the distributor needs to have the capability, profile and resources to prepare high quality tender document and or the ability to bundle several products in order to be able to compete with major global companies.
Although Australia is one country, the healthcare market can be somewhat fragmented and so local knowledge and having distributors or agents on the ground in the states or regions that are of commercial interest is an advantage.
